Provenance: Signed by Peter Blake. Peter sold this piece directly to Artfair. It is also uniquely inscribed on the back by Peter Blake with the words "Margate. Man & Boy" and signed again underneath. The image is housed in the standard protective envelope it was sold in, with the corresponding edition number written on it. There is a dated photograph of the artist signing the back of the image at the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Sale in Margate on 30th August 2015.
Comment: Joseph Cornell's Holiday Margate is a touching tribute to one of Peter Blake's heroes, the artist Joseph Cornell. Peter Blake attended the Margate Art Boot Fair to oversee the sale of this beautiful special edition and to meet and chat to the purchasers of this work. The edition was fully sold out on the day.
The text on the image reads "The Grotto at Margate" and "Arch in Chamber" and the text in the border reads "Margate Art Car Boot Fair. 2015. 'Joseph Cornell's Holiday Margate'. Me aged 1 in 1933, with Joseph Cornell."
This edition followed an "In Conversation With" Sir Peter Blake evening at the Royal Academy of Arts where the artist discussed the work of Joseph Cornell.
